In 1986, the Vanhonsebrouck family bought Ingelmunster Castle and this inspired them in 1989 to make this strong and dark, sweet flavored beer, the first taste bomb of the Kasteel series. This beer was first introduced to the general public in 1991 and immediately gained huge popularity. The Kasteelbier brand was born. Kasteel Donker is exactly this original Kasteelbier, toasty malty, really rich, with aromas of caramel, coffee and chocolate. Ripens and develops in the bottle!
