Urtekrams black rice is grown in Thailand. Here it is also called "forbidden rice" because the nobility in ancient China did not allow the subjects to eat this special rice. The black rice gets its color from the antioxidant anthocyanin which is also found in rose plants such as aronia and blueberries. The taste of black rice is slightly nutty and it gets its beautiful dark purple color when cooked.
